Nissan Canada is Now Taking Orders for the 2012 Nissan Leaf

It’s about time! We have all been patiently waiting for the Nissan Leaf to become available to Canadians. This week Nissan Canada has opened the market for the 2012 Nissan Leaf to be more accessible to Canadian citizens wanting to purchase this intelligent purely electric vehicle.

Currently there are 27 Nissan dealerships that are certified to carry and sell this vehicle but the number of dealerships will increase once the market demands more of the Leaf. The Nissan Leaf was available to Canadians before Nissan Canada announced an open market for 27 dealerships but wasn’t the most traditional way of purchasing a vehicle as you had to become a “hand raiser” with an online registration form where after you were then provide with further information on the leaf.

Monday December 12, 2011Nissan Canada launched an online registration form to consumers who hadn’t signed up previously to receive information on the Nissan Leaf. Potential consumers will need to pay a $99 refundable reservation fee online along with booking an assessment for the electric vehicle 240V charger. An electrician will then inspect the house to see if the house is equipped with proper wiring to support the charging system.

Installation can cost anywhere from $1,500-$3,500 depending on the type of charger being installed and if there is any work needed on the household to safely install the charger. The initial cost of purchasing a Nissan Leaf seems to be pricey but it’s in the long run where it pays off, not the mention the Ontario government offers a $8,500 incentive for consumers purchasing the Nissan Leaf. The Nissan Leaf will start at $38,395 MSRP. As more Nissan Leafs get on the road the price of the Leaf will decrease.
